Still plugging away at C’thulhu there. He’s your daily doodle for yesterday, he just slept in. (Oh HO, see what I did there?)
Today I had some sushi that was very tasty. My experience with sushi in the past was bitter and spicy, and I was sick afterward. Today’s sushi was much better! I had a sampler in an attempt to broaden my range, and tried some eel, salmon, tuna and some kind of shrimp-thing.
This weekend was like walking through cement as it dried. Maybe because it’s getting hot again? I dunno. I felt very uninspired.
And still I drew. I feel like I’m growing as an artist.
Here’s today’s doodle:
Working on these drawings for Connecticon has been educational for me. I’m learning the time it takes me to continue working on a steady schedule. In the past, I drew in spurts. I’d draw a little, listen to a little music, do some dishes, draw some more, read an article, etc. I still tend to do little sprints of drawing activity rather than extended marathon sessions, but I’ve trimmed as much downtime as possible from the in-between. So that’s good.
I wonder if the lack of motivation was due somehow to Danielle’s absence the past day and a half. I’ve always done my best work with an audience. Am I that needy that I require an audience? Here’s hoping for some more autonomy in the future.

This morning I find myself with a little spare time so I thought I’d provide an update on the C’thulhu image. I’d like to say it’s going exactly as I foresaw, but that would be a lie. I’m just making it up as I go, finding out what works and what doesn’t in SketchbookPro. Daily Doodle still to come today, just as soon as I figure out what to draw!
Also this is awesome. Maybe I’ll draw a doodle about that.

ME: Oh, it’s Alan-a-dale.
DANIELLE: *blank stare*
ME: The rooster.
DANIELLE: Oh yay!
I sometimes like to whistle the theme from Disney’s Robin Hood and see whose ears perk up. Those people tend to be on our side.
Been working a lot this weekend, as you can see from the blog. Here’s the state of the Zorbius/Riikos illustration:
That’s coming along nicely. Lyndsey and I had some phone conversations ironing more details out. I spent most of Saturday in or preparing to go to a birthday party for a relative. It was a cookout and the weather was nice. Ugh. I’m allergic to sunlight and fresh air, in case I haven’t made that clear.
While I’m very proud of the progress I’ve made, I’m frustrated by how much time the actual drawing is taking. I used to be a lot faster!
Also in-progress: Alucard from Hellsing versus Edward Cullen from Twilight. Guess who’s winning. Go on.
I think this article sums up how I feel about vampire mania as it exists in pop culture today.

I’m currently working on this illustration for Tales of Auli. I’m putting a lot of effort into the detail, and eventually the atmosphere and coloring layers. The whole recording was running long, so I had to split it into parts. On top of that, I had to change the music because YouTube wouldn’t let me use Kashmir by Led Zepplin.
The music is now Superbeast and How to Make a Monster by Rob Zombie.
