Been WAY too hot lately. I’m gonna have to spring for an air conditioner eventually, but until then I’m just gonna fan the hot air in my face.
Feeling really sick today, not good. Yesterday I worked on a doodle of Lyndsey and I as Jay and Silent Bob, but lost the energy to finish.

While doing a Google search for reference material, I found more erotic artwork of Maleficent than I believed could exist. I talked to Danielle about it a little bit, and came to the conclusion that people just find powerful women attractive. And men need to make powerful women into objects to feel safe from them.
Personally, I don’t think of Disney characters as sexual beings. That said, I’ve always been a fan of Maleficent. Her name is awesome, for starters. Plus she can turn into a dragon. As a boy, I giggled that she said “hell”, an offense that would have earned me a trip to my room. Maleficent, being a creature of imagination, was safe from parental disapproval.

Still plugging away at C’thulhu there. He’s your daily doodle for yesterday, he just slept in. (Oh HO, see what I did there?)
Today I had some sushi that was very tasty. My experience with sushi in the past was bitter and spicy, and I was sick afterward. Today’s sushi was much better! I had a sampler in an attempt to broaden my range, and tried some eel, salmon, tuna and some kind of shrimp-thing.
This weekend was like walking through cement as it dried. Maybe because it’s getting hot again? I dunno. I felt very uninspired.
And still I drew. I feel like I’m growing as an artist.
Here’s today’s doodle:

Working on these drawings for Connecticon has been educational for me. I’m learning the time it takes me to continue working on a steady schedule. In the past, I drew in spurts. I’d draw a little, listen to a little music, do some dishes, draw some more, read an article, etc. I still tend to do little sprints of drawing activity rather than extended marathon sessions, but I’ve trimmed as much downtime as possible from the in-between. So that’s good.
I wonder if the lack of motivation was due somehow to Danielle’s absence the past day and a half. I’ve always done my best work with an audience. Am I that needy that I require an audience? Here’s hoping for some more autonomy in the future.

A quick explanation is in order. As I worked on today’s Doodle (commemorating the 50th birthday of the laser! Hooray science!) I learned the images I created for ConnectiCon 2009 have been lost! Aaaaaaaand… you guessed it. I lost them in the hard drive crash.
But every disaster is an opportunity in disguise! That means I have another chance to create these awesome mascots!
Unfortunately for you lot, it also means I’m gonna be super busy for the next couple days/weeks. The only doodles you’re gonna get are screenshots of these mascots while they’re in-progress.

Chilling out before work on one of the rare days I don’t have a DVR waiting for me. So much of my daily media consumption is done in the wee hours of the morning, before I can process actual conversation. But I learned to read well much earlier than I learned to speak clearly: I was reading whole novels in third grade, but didn’t manage to squeak out complete sentences in public until, probably… seventh grade? I’d go so far as to say I couldn’t express myself verbally until I was a junior in high school.
